The Pathway

Program Overview

Top universities in the USA are providing an exclusive chance for motivated working professionals to enhance their academic credentials. They offer a path to earn a degree based directly on your professional work experience within your field.

Our approach relies on knowledge gained outside conventional academic settings. This means it's the learning and understanding you acquire through everyday life: holding a job, taking part in employer training programs, serving in the military, studying on your own, volunteering or doing community service. With this method, you do not have to study or take any examinations. Instead, you will complete a formal assessment interview and verification process to prove that your knowledge meets academic requirements based on your work history.

We will translate your prior work experience into credit hours, then from those credit hours grant you a degree that aligns with your professional background. To finish earning your required credit hours, you must go through an assessment with our university.
Step by Step

Standard Process for Obtaining an Honorary Doctorate

The process varies by institution, but the general steps include:

1

Candidate Identification

The university identifies individuals who have made significant contributions to their field or society.

2

Nomination

Nominations may come from faculty members, alumni, or external individuals. Supporting documentation outlining the candidate's achievements is typically required.

3

Evaluation & Selection

A university governing body or designated committee reviews nominations and evaluates each candidate's merits, including the impact of their work, reputation, and alignment with the institution's values and mission.

4

Approval

After evaluation, the governing body or committee makes a final decision, usually by majority vote or consensus.

5

Invitation

Approved candidates receive an official invitation from the institution to accept the honorary degree.

6

Acceptance

The candidate may accept or decline the honorary doctorate. If accepted, they typically confirm attendance at the ceremony. Alternatively, they may request that the certificate be sent by mail.

7

Ceremony

The honorary degree is usually awarded during a formal ceremony such as convocation or commencement. The recipient may be required to deliver an acceptance speech reflecting on their achievements or offering advice.

8

Conferral

During the ceremony, an institutional representative presents the honorary degree to the recipient, often accompanied by a citation or formal statement recognizing their accomplishments.

9

Recognition

After conferral, the recipient is officially recognized as an honorary doctor by the institution and may receive certain privileges or benefits associated with the title.

If any candidate from anywhere in the world wishes to receive an honorary doctorate from the universities listed on usagates.org/universities, UNI American Eagles can nominate and proceed on their behalf — subject to the terms and conditions of the chosen university.

Important Note Regarding Ceremonies: Candidates are not required to attend the ceremony or give a speech if they wish to avoid associated expenses. The applicant can simply request that the university send their certificate by mail instead.
